Going forward with Safety

Very happy to see you again for this n°6 of our newsletter. A publication celebrating iAero’s 20th anniversary.

Born in October 2001, iAero was very quickly positioned as the precursor to the democratization of the pilot assistance system. The adventure began with the standard installation of its API (Piloting Assistance by Information) system as standard on Dyn'Aéro's MCR01 small planes in 2003. It made it possible to manage all the electrical controls in the plane (trims, flaps). More than a hundred systems were installed.

The concept of a flight recorder is then refined to provide a simple system that works better. 2007 will thus mark the launch of APIBOX in France. iAero will equip the entire fleet of the Cognac Air Force School - 60 TB30 and Grob G120.

In 2008, iAero's first exchanges with the French BEA ("Bureau Enquêtes et Analyses" - Bureau of Investigation and Analysis) were the antechamber of the ED 155 standard for light flight recorders. Extensive collaborative work to demonstrate that relevant and effective solutions exist for lightweight flight recorders for aviation, excluding public transportation.

Finally, 2015 sees the major update of the APIBOX. 10 years of feedback to feed this V3 with much more functionality matching the market expectations and compatible with the ED 155 standard.

Since then, APIBOX has had a number of successes: a significant global market share in equipment for training schools; 10% of the world's fleet of equipped PC6 aircraft; equipment option integrated by international aircraft manufacturers…

What wish for the future will you ask me?

It has actually been the same for a long time: that all operators and pilots accept the recording of flight parameters to advance safety.
It is by taking a mature and responsible look at steering and predictive maintenance that together we will significantly advance safety for the benefit of all.

Happy reading and fly safe!

APIBOX, the solution for ALL Public Transport and Aerial Work helicopters

Very good news: APIBOX is approved for piston helicopters operating in Public Transport and Aerial Work, among other helicopters.
It meets the requirement of the new AIROPS - AMOC FRN°38 rule of May 18, 2021 which requires the use of a flight data recorder for piston helicopters during in-flight operations without the capability to conduct a safe forced landing (CAT.POL.H 305).

The authorization issued to the operators by the Authority (DGAC) shall be conditional on risk reduction measures to ensure a sufficient level of reliability of the powerplant. This authorization is now granted to piston helicopters as well as turbine helicopters.
The operator shall, among other measures, install a flight data recorder capable of providing an accurate list of engine parameters, for each flight and for a maximum daily storage time. Such data must be easily accessible by the Authority over a period of 24 months.

The APIBOX, which is already operational on turbine helicopters, will soon be installed on piston helicopters such as the Robinson 44, the world's best-selling helicopter according to the 2018 General Aviation Manufacturers Association study.
A major step forward for the professional use of this small device.

The advantages of APIBOX

YOUR DATA IN THE APIBOX

iAero

Fast and efficient in remote control

We often talk to you about pilot progress regarding the use of APIBOX. But it's also a tremendous aid for aircraft maintenance.
Here is the demonstration by example!

One day, Hubert Aviation aircraft maintenance workshop based in Le Mans (France) is called in to intervene for one of its customers in Arcachon (France). A Cessna 207 Soloy, operated by the Villemarie Aerodrome Parachuting Club, had an undefined defect and was therefore grounded. Equipped with APIBOX, nothing was easier than to extract the data stored on the SD card and send them by email to the workshop. The diagnosis, after the study of the data and the curves, was accomplished in a few minutes, with the result: failure on the generator starter. No need to send a technician on site to identify the problem.
The on-site response was possible within short time period with the spare part in stock.

Conclusion: a reduction in aircraft downtime, a small maintenance bill and an aircraft that was able to return to flight very quickly.

Remember that APIBOX records more than 100 engine, instrumentation and airframe parameters on each flight and that they are accessible on the ground via the debriefing software or the SD card or with the optional iTx Module, as well on a server, without any pilot/technician intervention. It is an indispensable and valuable tool for not only maintenance companies in the effectivness of their intervention, both remotely and on site.

APIBOX, WHAT FOR?

Complete a CRM and memorize your flight path

Today, each of you, pilots, instructors, must complete the CRM form for your aircraft, after your flight (s). Who did not find themselves in the situation of having forgotten to write down their departure fuel quantity, landing time, landing gear cycle…?
Our memory is sometimes lacking and the reflex to note everything in the cockpit is not always there.

APIBOX records EVERYTHING and delivers all this information to you whenever you want. Just consult the debriefing software and its data.
Here is a very nice utility of our data logger:
To be your ally to fill the CRM.

But that's not all…

You may one day be confronted with a disgruntled local resident who complains that your plane or helicopter has flown over at low altitude (and this happens more and more frequently).
Thanks to APIBOX and its debriefing software, you have immediate access to your navigation track, in 3D, with altitude, speed and GPS position data. Enough to account for your trajectory in the most efficient and fastest way possible.

The APIBOX has not finished impressing you!

BEHIND THE SCENES OF IAERO...
iAero
Martin, IT architect at iAero

Once the APIBOX has been acquired, it's time to install your aircraft in the maintenance workshop. And that's when Martin enters the scene for assistance and configuration on complex specific installations. He knows all the inner workings of APIBOX since he is the architect of the internal software of the recorder.
Martin accompanies both the maintenance workshop / installer and the pilots themselves. Nothing escapes him. This is your asset in optimizing the operation of the recorder.

Before the health crisis, Martin often traveled to customers to act in situ on aircraft. Today, he connects remotely with the computer connected to the APIBOX. “It's just as effective as on-site. All the checks have been carried out, ”says Martin, who nevertheless regrets the human contact. "It's nicer to see the customer and there is more responsiveness being there. But remotly, the quality of the service remains the same”.

At iAero for the past 7 years, Martin has traveled the world through his interventions. Currently, he works with German, American, Pakistani and other clients.

And when you ask him what his favorite hobby is? Flying of course! An ULM pilot's license in his pocket for a few years, he is always eager to take control of a Eurostar.

Air Courtage Assurances advice to optimize your contract

In this time of skyrocketing insurance premiums, it helps to know what to do to keep costs down.

Caroline Cognet-Renard, co-manager and partner of Air Courtage Assurances, entrusts us with her advice.
"What is essential today to contain the rise in premiums, and even to ensure the sustainability of the insurance offer, is to do everything to prevent the occurrence of a claim. To do this, every aircraft owner / operator, pilot and instructor should have a rigorous and continuous approach in terms of prevention" explains Caroline.

“Each file that we study must demonstrate a certain number of guarantees: have a maximum of experience on the model of aircraft to be insured, train regularly in flight, as soon as possible, repeat a flight with an instructor after a long period without practicing... ”.

Insurers are more and more selective and no longer hesitate to refuse outright certain risks whose claims are too high or the experience of pilots on type is insufficient.

But Air Courtage Assurances is not stopping there.

"To better "sell" our clients' records to insurers, we also systematically ask in our questionnaires whether the aircraft is equipped with APIBOX. We know the reliability of this recorder which is an asset for the safety of the aircraft and its pilot "explains Caroline, who contributes to an incentive approach in terms of safety.
"Our company makes a commercial gesture of € 150.00 on Breakage insurance for the first year upon presentation of proof of installation of the APIBOX.

Our goal: to help anticipate risky behavior and encourage pilots to maintain and continue improving their skills".

APIBOX, your ally for guaranteed and optimized insurance.
