Let's go back in time together. The APIBOX was born in 2005 and made it possible to meet the needs of the Cognac Air School to have a lightweight parameter recorder of its fleet of different aircraft types. At the same time, iAero maintains regular exchanges with Philippe Plantin de Hugues, head of the flight recorder division of the “Bureau Enquêtes et Analyses” (BEA). It must be said that at that time, the BEA, always actively seeking innovation in parallel with its accident analysis mission in France, saw positively the arrival of a recorder adapted to general aviation. It is therefore by noting the validity of the functioning of the APIBOX that the BEA initiated a working group bringing together the largest aeronautical manufacturers and iAero to discuss the democratization of a lightweight parameter recorder for aircraft. And iAero is very proud to have been a pioneer in this field. The ED155 specification was finally introduced in 2011. It details the characteristics of a lightweight parameter recorder (Lightweight Flight Recording System) mainly concerning aircraft weighing less than 5.7 tons and less than 19 seats. A specification that is easier to implement, cheaper and less burdensome than the ED 112 specification still in force, which was designed for large commercial aircraft.
In 2021, the EASA and the FAA have still not included this specification in a regulatory framework, unlike some Asian countries, perhaps more pragmatic in this area? But that does not stop iAero's APIBOX, which continues to expand worldwide and attracts more and more manufacturers and operators, convinced by its proven contribution to flight safety… |
