| iAero at the Paris Air Show |
| Our participation in the 54th International Paris Air Show, held at Le Bourget from June 19 to 25, was extremely active! Existing and potential customers and partners were all in attendance for this 2023 edition, which lived up to all its promises after a four-year absence due to the Covid pandemic. We were delighted to welcome back our customer Diamond Aircraft, for whom we equip the DA40/42 with APIBOX. As for our flight test business, we exchanged views with the Turgis et Gaillard group, among other customers. Contacts were also very interesting with all the E-VTOL (flying cab) start-ups exhibiting in the Paris Air Mobility zone. Constructive exchanges were also initiated with Aura Aero for its Integral-E aircraft, or with VoltAero for its Cassio 330... Finally, we assisted our customer SolarStratos throughout the show, getting ready for a demonstration flight over the runways at Le Bourget (see our feedback in the "Behind the scenes" section of this newsletter). The 54th Paris Air Show offered promising prospects for the development of our business, both in terms of flight testing and APIBOX deployment. See you in the next issues of our iAeroNEWS to find out who will get the 1000th APIBOX installed! In the meantime, we're continuing our test flights for SolarStratos, with the aim of reaching a flight altitude of 30,000 ft. Until then, we wish you all a wonderful summer, on land and in the air. Fly happy, fly safe! Gérald DUCOIN iAero Managing Director and Test Pilot |

| APIBOX meets regulatory requirements for single-engine helicopters |
| iAero has just been selected to supply an APIBOX for a Robinson 44 light helicopter for a new customer in the public passenger transport sector. iAero already has an EASA Minor Change Approval for the R44. The installation was therefore quick and efficient to implement. This request meets the requirement of AIROPS - AMOC FRN°38 of May 18, 2021, which imposes the use of a flight data recorder for piston helicopters during in-flight operations without the ability to make a safe forced landing (CAT.POL.H 305). The solution: the APIBOX, approved for piston helicopters in public transport and aerial work operations. (The APIBOX has already a multiple years long track record being used under the CAT.POL.H 305 rules, including compliance to FAA $135.607 rule) This new order was clearly motivated by the new regulations...… The APIBOX is gradually establishing itself in the landscape of public passenger transport in single-engine helicopters, as it is fully adapted to the operational requirements of this flight category. It's easy to install, the recorded parameters are numerous; the operation is simple and accessible to all; the price is competitive; and iAero's customer service and support is recognized. What's more, the debriefing software is a major asset today when it comes to providing proof of flight paths and parameters when challenged by local residents or associations during a given overflight. The R44 joins the Ecureuil AS350 and the Dauphin SA365 already equipped with APIBOX in Europe (more continents to follow... 😉) A new stage in the success of our recorder in public transport! |

| APIBOX v3: a concentrate of performance! |
| In operation for several years now, APIBOX version 3 is proof of its optimized efficiency: performance and power are the order of the day! Customer's feedback from APIBOX V3 confirms its technological and functional advances. These include: lighter and simplified equipment, faster data acquisition, superior processing quality, twice the capacity of recorded parameters... : - Only 2 housings instead of 3 or 4 with V2 (weight, space and mounting savings).
- 32-bit data instead of 16 bits = improved overall performance.
- Recording capacity of over 200 parameters at 8hz instead of 100 at 1hz (great flexibility for more sophisticated calculations).
- Not to mention voice recording.
- Greater reliability of recorded data.
- Longer recording times for both data and audio.
- Wifi connection for sending recorded data.
- Easier, faster installation.
- Simplified system design = fewer constraints thanks to new system design.
- Accessibility to a wider range of devices to equip.
- GSM transmission after flight and Iridium transmission during flight.
- An APIBOX that retains its universality and customization benefits for everyone, everywhere, digital or analog cockpits.
The V3 is now installed on a number of aircraft, including the DA 40, DA 42, DR 400, Cap10, G120 series, DHC6 300, Beech1900D, C208, RV-10, PC-6, helicopters AS350, SA365, R44... and the EXTRA 330 SC (see the article in this newsletter on the French Air Force aerobatic team in the "The word to…" section). Today, over 950 APIBOX are in operation worldwide, including over 360 with V3. Would you like to migrate your APIBOX to V3? Click here |

APIBOX: HOW DOES IT WORK? |
|
|
|
---|
|
| The APIBOX certification recipe |
| APIBOX is required to have EASA approval for each aircraft in which it is installed. iAero is therefore fully compliant with this demanding regulatory process, which is essential for the installation of any equipment in an aircraft. There are two possible scenarios: the aircraft is already covered by an existing approval, or this is not yet the case... What is iAero's process? In the case of a new approval, the first thing to do is to get to know the aircraft, study it in detail to determine the optimum layout for the system. At the same time, iAero works closely with the customer to understand his needs and the options to be installed. The result is a project file, including a description of the unit's mounting and electrical wiring. The installation manual and wiring diagram are then drawn up. This is followed by the major stage of EASA's review of the dossier. This period of discussion with one of the EASA specialists enables the necessary clarifications to be made with a view to approval. In the case of existing approval, an EASA/FAA approved maintenance workshop can install the recorder directly. iAero is currently working with EASA on a dozen approvals, including the AW 109 helicopter, the H125 helicopter and the PA 46, Cessna 172/182, Beech 200 and 300... Thanks to iAero's solid experience, the time required to obtain a new approval is relatively short. iAero has over forty approvals worldwide, thanks to bilateral agreements between EASA and other countries. Would you like to integrate APIBOX into your aircraft? Nothing could be simpler. iAero's certification professionals are at your disposal! |

|
Gérald Ducoin, iAero's Managing Director and test pilot, joined SolarStratos at the Paris Air Show from June 19 to 22. As test pilot for the prototype solar-powered airplane, Gérald joined the Swiss team at Le Bourget to showcase the latest technological advances in their demonstrator. A curious and enthusiastic audience was able to appreciate first-hand the huge wingspan of this aircraft. Wings four times longer than a standard aircraft, with a surface area of some 22 m2 of solar panels powering five in-flight batteries (link to article in iAeroNEWS N°9 here). But how did it get to Le Bourget? By road, in a trailer, with its wings dismantled. An optimal mode of transport in all weathers. Gérald was on deck during the show's professional days to take to the skies above Paris. Unfortunately, weather conditions were not sufficiently favorable for an optimal flight demonstration. But it's only a postponement! Gérald has already completed six test flights to evaluate the new engine and propeller. Next on the flight schedule: performance measurements at high altitude. Target: 30,000 ft! Meet Gérald and SolarStratos in this exceptional France 2 report broadcast on the 8pm news on June 8. |

| Adjudant Morgan of the French Air Force Aerobatic Team |
| The two EXTRA 330 SC of the French Air and Space Force aerobatic team (EVAAE), world aerobatics champions in 2022, are now benefiting from the APIBOX V3. Adjudant Morgan, a mechanic dedicated to this single-seater aerobatic training and competition aircraft, explains the benefits. "The APIBOX has been fitted to our EXTRA aerobatic aircraft since 2008," explains Adjudant Morgan, "and we upgraded to the V3 in 2022. Over the past year, we've been able to appreciate the new functionalities, which enhance flight safety and optimize maintenance of our aircraft". The EVAAE is one of the French Air Force's ambassadors, alongside the “Patrouille de France”. These "choreographers of the skies" perform at airshows to show the public the rigor and professionalism of the men and women who work in our air units. With competitions and training phases, the aerobatic team performs an average of 5 flights a day throughout the year. The team comprises 4 pilots and 7 mechanics. "The APIBOX is an indispensable, high-performance piece of equipment for alerting us to any mechanical problems and providing us with precise information on all flight parameters. Diagnosis of a malfunction is immediate. In addition to engine parameters, we have audio recording in the cockpit. This enabled us, for example, to hear a change in propeller pitch. Combined with a loss of oil pressure, this led us to intervene on the propeller governor. APIBOX also adapts to the specific operational requirements of each aircraft. "The standard recorder works with the international reference system, in knots and feet. Ours are adapted to the metric reference frame to be in harmony with that of our aircraft. So there's no need for conversion. The data is instantly usable. The information is right where we need it", explains Adjudant Morgan. Every year, the EVAAE takes part in some forty aerial events, in France and abroad, including French federal and international competitions. Upcoming events include the European Championships in Italy in September. And APIBOX will be there! |
